Launched in 2024, Sous is a first-of-its-kind marketplace connecting customers directly with their own personal chef, for meal prep and special occasions.
We’re now live in NYC, Chicago and LA, and you can search for chefs near you at sous.so.
Our Story
In 2018, cofounders Craig Silver and Justin Hamer created Shmeal – an app that allowed chefs to serve meals from their own home kitchens. Over 10,000 meals were served on the platform by independent home chefs. The team met dozens of families who desperately wanted to eat healthy homemade food, but didn’t have the time or energy to cook for themselves.
Inspired by this experience, the team created Sous as a way to connect families with chefs, so they can eat better, save time, and experience the magic of having their own personal chef.
Sous went live in Chicago in May 2024, followed by NY and LA in October 2024.

Mission
For customers — We believe having your own personal chef is the best way to eat great food on an everyday basis, and eat your ideal diet (whatever you imagine that to be). Our mission is to help struggling families to de-stress, eat better and live longer.
For chefs — We believe chefs are systematically overworked, underpaid and underappreciated in the current restaurant system. Our mission is to make it ridiculously easy for chefs to escape the restaurant grind and work as personal chefs, get paid more, and lead better lives.
