While Shmeal was a hit and customers loved engaging personally with their chefs, we noticed a common hassle – the inconvenience of picking up meals from the chef's home. This sparked an idea: what if your personal chef could come to you and prepare meals to your liking, all in the comfort of your own home? And thus, Sous was born.

Our Journey: From Shmeal to Sous

Sous was born out of a collaboration between the cofounding team of CEO Craig Silver and CTO Justin Hamer. In 2018, both Craig and Justin shared a dream of working in the culinary industry without the burdens of culinary school debt or low-paying restaurant jobs.

Together, they launched Shmeal, an app that allowed home chefs to serve meals from their home kitchens. The response was overwhelming, with over 10,000 meals served on the platform by independent home chefs. However, the logistical challenges of meal pickups led to the evolution of Sous, where Chicago personal chefs bring their expertise directly to customers' homes for a seamless and personalized dining experience.
